Loeries Organisers meet with Nigerian Agency executives in Lagos
In a bid to improve participation from regional agencies, especially Nigerian creatives at the Loeries Awards, the organisers will this week hold a get together with leaders of the advertising industry in Nigeria.
The forum will provide a platform for Loeries organisers to persuade Nigerian agencies on why and how to enter the awards scheduled to hold in Durban, South Africa in August.
The Loeries Lagos get together, which is endorsed by the AAAN, is slated to hold on Friday 24 February, and will be declared opened by the AAAN President Kayode Oluwasona.
The meeting is part of Loeries roadshow which will extend to Nairobi, Dubai and Tel Aviv in the coming month.
According to figures released by the organisers, 22 countries entered the entered for the 2016 edition, reflecting a 30% increase in entries from across the region.
During the meeting, Loeries CEO, Andrew Human, will give highlights, info and tips on entering this year’s awards as well as sharing what to expect at Loeries Creative Week Durban which is the biggest gathering of our industry across Africa and the Middle East.
“We are looking for the unique cultural voices across Africa and the Middle East – not global campaigns and big budgets.
“There is lots of interest from brands in our region and the Loeries Official Rankings now provide the most comprehensive overview of what’s happening from Cape Town to Cairo!” said Human.
Encouraging Nigeria’s participation, Clement Omemu, a representative on the Loeries Regional Committee and previous judge said he hopes to see a bigger Nigerian contingent at the Loeries this year, adding that Nigerian agencies should be bold and ready to showcase their creativity to the world.
“The Loeries is an opportunity for Nigerian creatives and agencies to showcase their talents and rub shoulders with the global creative community. Most of our agencies here have come of age and their ideas are global with a true cultural relevance. I believe we have what it takes to compete with the rest of our region.
“As the creative community in Nigeria, we should be bold and ready to showcase our work for the world to see and also attend Loeries Creative Week Durban in August. Winning may not be automatic, but valuable lessons from the week-long event will be gained. I hope to welcome a bigger Nigerian contingent this year in Durban, South Africa,” he said.
Last year was the first time a Regional Agency Group ranking was included in the annual Loeries Official Rankings, which provide an indication of who’s who in the brand communications industry across Africa and the Middle East. Ogilvy EMEA is number one on the Regional Rankings, followed by BBDO MEA and then TBWA.
Last year, a Grand Prix was scooped by Tusker in Kenya as well as Saudi Telekom, with Nigerian agency Noahs Ark walking away with a Silver and two Bronze Loeries. Noahs Ark currently rank 9th in the Regional Agency table.
The Loeries Awards is the highest accolade for creativity and innovation across Africa and the Middle East. It is an initiative that recognises, rewards, inspires and fosters creative excellence in the brand communication industry.
