Hilda Effiong Bassey, Nigerian chef, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has broken the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.

Hilda Baci, on Monday morning, smashed the 87 hours 45 minutes record set by now-former Guinness World Record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian lady.

The cooking marathon competition which was launched on Thursday at exactly 4pm when she put on her cooker is currently ongoing at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State.

Hilda carries on despite having broken the record as she aims to cook for 96 hours, setting a new world record as the first human on earth to spend such an amount of time cooking. The world record breaker has continued to receive a wave of support from a prominent Nigerian who went to lekki to cheer her up while she cooks.

The governor of Lagos Babajide Sanwo-Olu was also at Lekki on Sunday to show his support and gave her words of encouragement. Other VIPs at the restaurant include celebrities, influencers, clerics, musicians and well-meaning Nigerians.

Chef Hilda won the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, pocketing a grand prize of $5000.
The Guinness Book of Records is a reference book that contains human and natural world records.

It was first published in 1955 by the Guinness Brewery in Ireland and has since become one of the world’s most well-known and frequently read reference books.

Individuals or groups must submit proof to the Guinness World Records team and go through a verification process to qualify for a world record listing.
