FirstBank appoints Adenowo as new MD/CEO of FirstBank UK

FirstBank Group, a prominent financial institution in Nigeria, has recently announced the appointment of Olukorede Adenowo as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of FirstBank UK. Adenowo, who assumed his position on November 16, 2023, is awaiting the necessary regulatory approvals before officially taking over.
Folake Ani-Mumuney, the Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at First Bank of Nigeria Limited, shared the news and praised Adenowo for his exceptional leadership qualities, strategic vision, and comprehensive understanding of the global financial landscape.
Adenowo has an impressive background in the banking industry, with his most recent role being the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria. He joined the bank in 1999, starting in the corporate banking sector, and has since held various key positions, including the MD/CEO of SCB Gambia, Deputy MD/CEO of SCB Cameroon, and MD of Corporate Commercial and Institutional Banking for SCB Nigeria and West Africa. He also has over 13 years of board experience within the Chartered Bank Group as a Non-Executive Director of SCB Gambia and SCB Sierra Leone.

Adenowo’s professional journey began at Deloitte Nigeria, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1991. He was recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 2003 and received a Distinguished Alumnus award from Deloitte Nigeria in 2015. Adenowo holds an MBA from Lagos Business School and has participated in management training programs at INSEAD and Said Business School, Oxford University, focusing on leadership.
