CBN releases visible features to help users ascertain currency authenticity

Following the criticism and allegations that have dogged the newly released currency by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the apex bank has officially released some prominent features to guide users not to fall victim to counterfeiters.
This was revealed by Nigeria’s pioneer and legacy bank, First Bank of Nigeria on its LinkedIn page while urging consumers to be guided with great caution.
These features include hand engraved portrait, windowed metallic security thread with CBN inscription, portrait watermarks and many other features that will help Nigerians to differentiate the fake from the original.
CBN also stated that the current series of N200, N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender until the deadline of January 31, 2023.
It would be recalled that the newly released currency has continued to receive lots of criticism since its adoption recently, as many consumers continued to complain against the low quality of the currency’s features, especially with the N1, 000 notes, which makes it difficult for users to ascertain the authenticity of the currency.
