Alhaji Lai Mohammed lauds Advertising Industry Colloquium

The Honourable Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has extolled the leadership of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, ARCON for the recently held industry colloquium geared towards increasing the knowledge base of professionals and members of the academia in the advertising and marketing communications ecosystem.
The Minister who was represented by Mr. Sunday Baba, Director, Public Communications Federal Ministry of Information & Culture at the Advertising Industry Colloquium, commended the apex advertising regulatory agency for the reforms initiated to reposition the advertising industry in the country by making it economically viable through policy framework and regulations.
He said: “I would like to, first, thank the Director General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, the Management and staff of the Council and the distinguished Advertising Industry Colloquium Committee chaired by Prof. Olatunji Rotimi for putting up, magnificently, the first advertising industry colloquium. It is, undeniably, a noble initiative which deserves every support and encouragement it needs to be sustained.
“I am delighted to see the progress the Council has been making to ensure that the advertising and marketing industry in Nigeria is ethically and professionally practised as it should be. The industry has recently witnessed series of reforms and other developmental strides aimed to keep it consistent with the dynamic demands of the sector.
Alhaji Mohammed affirmed that the recent regulatory frameworks have positive economic implications for the industry and country, stated that the industry colloquium will consolidate on existing efforts to ensure high professional standards in line with global acceptable standards.
“The introduction of the industry Standard of Practice which seeks to provide minimum expectation of business practices among stakeholders and eradicate unethical activities which are inimical to general interest of the advertising industry in Nigeria is one of the high points of the Council. The implementation of a policy to ensure that a 75% cumulative local content is integrated on all advertisement, advertising and marketing communication materials with effect from January 1, 2023, is meant to create a minimum of 500,000 jobs annually and save the country hundreds of millions of Naira in capital flight owing to production of advertisement outside the country” he added.
The Minister urged advertising and marketing professionals to continuously initiate activities which will potentially propel the advertising and marketing communications industry to achieve better positioning and improved value-delivery profitable to advertising practitioners as well as the nation in general.
