Akinniyi Akinbamiro, a digital marketing consultant has averred that for Africa, smart branding and marketing will attract the right target audience as the continent actually needs people who can brand and market it strategically to the rest of the world.
Akinbamiro, who made this remark in a Linkedin post while speaking on the potential for growth and innovation in Africa’s tech startups ecosystem, also urged Investors on the continent who are always ready to fund great ideas from African startups to make prompt moves to invest appropriately.
He said: “If Africa wants to really move up the ladder globally, then many of its tech startups need adequate funding to enable them to grow their capacity to compete globally. Africans possess the abilities of trailblazers and pacesetters. Africans are brilliant and smart!”
David Vogel, CEO Project SunRize completely agrees.
In response to Akinbamiro’s viewpoint, he pointed out that the potential for growth and innovation in Africa’s tech startup ecosystem is immense.
According to Vogel, with smart branding and marketing strategies, Africa can attract the right investment and showcase its talent to the world.
He said: “It’s great to see an increase in funding for African startups, but there is still room for improvement to ensure adequate funding for these businesses to reach their full potential. Let’s hope for continued growth and success for African tech startups in the future!”
Damon Burton, an SEO consultant also maintained that through thoughtful branding and marketing the continent can ensure that it is attracting the right target audience and getting its message across in a way that resonates. “Africa can be so much more,” Burton added in the LinkedIn thread.
This LinkedIn conversation follows comments made by Akon, a renowned artist and real estate mogul on the need for Africa to rebrand and change its international perception.
In the Youth Connekt Africa Summit ‘17 interview, Akon had said: “We have to be able to tell our own stories. Directors, filmmakers, entertainers, we have to be able to tell the African story and it has to be clear. And the press also has a huge part to play in redefining how people think about Africa. What you put out there is what the world would get. It’s all about country integrity. You have a reputation to keep.”
He further revealed: “One of the problems we have in Africa is that when something happens, the press is quick to put out a negative story. And then the story goes to the internet, and then other broadcasting systems take it and post it. So we really need to look at how the world perceives Africa by addressing how we tell our own stories.”
