Appoint professionals to handle your communications, Insight Redefini boss tells FG
The Federal Government has been advised on the need to appoint well groomed professionals to handle its communications programs so as to deliver on good governance to the people.
This advice was handed down by a communications expert, the Group MD/CEO of Insight Redefini, a Publicis company, Dr Ken Onyeali Ikpe while speaking in an exclusive interview with MARKETING EDGE in Lagos.
According to him, the most important aspect of governance is communication, hence government needed to deal with it by ensuring that the best hands are assembled from among communications people.
“For government, communication is everything. You are as good as how you are perceived. You have to consistently be in touch with your consumer and the consumer for Nigeria and for any government is the people.
“All your strategies, all your plans are to yourself; once people are disconnected with you then it’s like you are winking at a lady in the dark. And that’s exactly what is happening. There may be good plans and good strategies; but for what purposes. You have to explain that and it must make sense; it must be measurable,” he said.
Ikpe who doubles as President of the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) noted the IMC sector in Nigeria was bedeviled with various challenges which includes among other things, low investments, poor infrastructure and lack of human resource development. He stressed the need for agency practitioners to come together to be able to deliver serious solutions to communications problems.
“I think a lot of investment is required. It’s no longer an industry of one or two people coming together to push a company. You must open up for investment so that the foreign investors can come into it and then interact and enhance your structure,” he said.
