United Bank for Africa Plc, has appointed Emmanuel Nnorom as its new Group Chairman, ushering in a new phase of leadership as the pan African financial institution continues to strengthen its operations across the continent and beyond.
The appointment, announced by UBA, places an experienced banking and business executive at the helm of the Group at a time when the financial services industry continues to evolve rapidly across Africa.
He brings more than four decades of professional experience to the role, combining expertise in banking, finance, risk management and corporate leadership.
His career is also closely connected to UBA. Over the years, he has held several senior positions within the Group, giving him extensive knowledge of its operations, business structure and growth trajectory.
He previously served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, where he oversaw the Group’s businesses across 18 African countries. He also held the positions of Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Chief Financial Officer, while serving as a Non Executive Director on the UBA Board.

His earlier executive responsibilities included Executive Director of Finance and Executive Director of Risk at UBA, further broadening his understanding of the institution’s financial, operational and risk management functions.
Beyond UBA, he has also built a significant corporate leadership profile. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc between 2014 and 2017 before moving into the leadership of Heirs Holdings, where he currently serves as Group Chief Executive Officer.
With this combination of institutional knowledge and wider corporate experience, the newly appointed Chairman assumes the chairmanship at a significant point in UBA’s continuing expansion.
Indeed, his appointment represents more than a change at the top. It also creates a bridge between the Group’s established leadership legacy and its next stage of growth, particularly as UBA continues to deepen its African footprint and pursue opportunities beyond the continent.
Over the years, UBA has built a broad pan African presence, supported by its banking operations, digital capabilities and growing international reach. The new leadership is therefore expected to consolidate these gains while providing strategic direction for the Group’s next phase.

Nnorom’s return to a prominent leadership position within UBA also brings a familiar hand back to the institution’s strategic leadership structure. Having previously worked across finance, risk, operations and African business management, he enters the role with a broad understanding of the opportunities and challenges confronting the Group.
For UBA, the transition consequently signals continuity as much as renewal. While the Group welcomes a new chairman, it is also placing its next chapter in the hands of an executive who has played significant roles in shaping its journey.
The appointment, therefore, comes with expectations of stronger governance, sustained growth and deeper value creation as UBA continues to position itself as a leading African financial institution.
As the Group opens this new chapter, he is expected to build on the foundations established by previous leadership while steering the institution towards its next set of strategic ambitions across Africa and the global markets where it operates.
