We must pay attention to AAAN’s image- Ikechi Odigbo promises
Fresh from his election as President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Ikechi Odigbo, has rolled out his plans for the association, stressing that he is determined to steer the AAAN in a new direction and drive projects that will shore up the association’s image.
Odigbo, who is Managing Director of DBB Lagos and the immediate Vice President of AAAN, was elected unopposed last weekend at its 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Congress in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He stated that under his leadership, the organisation would focus on projects that will facilitate competitiveness and enhance performance, professionalism and prestige.
“There is the need to reposition AAAN as a thought leader in the creative industry, improve our brand assets and social media platforms, as well as drive the association’s visibility, appeal and strategic relevance through disciplined execution of public relations (PR) and media plans.
“As brand builders, we must pay quality attention to AAAN’s image to foster confidence and pride in our profession among all relevant stakeholders,” he said.
To surmount the challenges being faced by the association, Odigbo noted that the new leadership would adopt a more entrepreneurial approach, which has the potential of yielding greater value to members, protect and advance collective strategic interests with clients and improve its reputation.
“We will embark on value adding initiatives by leveraging on the strength of our corporate collective. We will negotiate discounted rates for software licenses, so that member agencies can have access to work ware at reduced cost. This could be extended to other areas of common need,” he added.
The new leadership, he stressed, would also strive to raise AAAN’s financial profile by optimising the delivery of its revenue generating activities such as the LAIF Awards, training programmes and annual general meetings (AGMs).
Odigbo further disclosed plans to push for a proper constitution of the Advertising Practitioners’ Council of Nigeria (APCON) board and stronger reforms through intense lobbying and leveraging influencers with the regulatory ministry and other relevant government institutions.
While regretting that the efforts of his predecessor to get the APCON board in place have failed to yield results, he noted he was determined to adopt a new strategy which will include setting up a powerful lobby team to engage relevant authorities for the constitution of the APCON council.
He stated that huge investments have been made to ensure the commencement of the Advertising Academy, adding that the new leadership would ensure that the academy becomes operational during his tenure.
He said professional training programmes would be reviewed to further align with requirements for APCON’s certification and bridge gaps in the quality of content and delivery, among other objectives.
