Visa taps Sherif Akinpelu as Senior marketing manager West Africa

Sherif Lanre Akinpelu, a renowned Strategist in Nigerian Integrated Marketing Communications Industry as been appointed as Senior Marketing Manager, Marketing Service for West Africa for Visa company.
Akinpelu is experienced in Strategy and Planning, marketing, behavioral science, brand and communication skills.
Prior to joining Visa, he served as the Group Deputy Director of Strategy and Planning at SPV Communication Solutions. He also worked at CreativeXone as an Assistant Brand Planner before being elevated to the post of a Brand Planning Manager.
Sherif worked as a Graduate Trainee/Strategy Executive at Proximity Communications Nigeria. However, hos career started in Strategy at Cosse TTL as a Strategy Intern.
With a proven track record of building world-class brands, Akinpelu has worked across six agencies: DDB Lagos, TBWA Concept, Yellow Brick Road Lagos, PHD Lagos, Playhouse Communication, EXP Marketing, which manages the MTN Nigeria Account ($4B rev), Nigeria’s largest listed company.
Sherif is a part of the Strategic Think Tank for TBWA Africa, which oversees MTN Group operations in over 17 African countries.
Under his leadership, the MTN Nigeria brand marked one of the most successful brand and business phases in its 23-year history in Nigeria. He led the creation and execution of brand and communications strategies for all of MTN Nigeria’s business units, including data, voice, youth, mass market, mobile financial services (MoMo), Enterprise Business Unit, customer experience, digital/ value-added services, MTN foundation, and Sponsorships.
Sherif spearheaded notable Nigerian and pan-African campaigns, including the We Move campaign, the MTN Nigeria 5G launch, the MTN Champs Campaign, MoMo Nigeria Positioning, and MoMo Africa Remittance.
So far in his career, Sherif has worked on brands like Spectranet, Keystone Bank, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Dangote Salt, DanQ, Dangote Cement, Dangote seasoning etc.
He is an alumnus of the University of Lagos and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree and an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication respectively, with special focus on Public Relations & Advertising. He also attended 02 Academy Lagos (2015) and Tink Africa’s Bschool Ministry of Strategy (2017).
