Carl Cruz appointed Airtel Nigeria CEO

Airtel Africa has announced that Mr. Carl Cruz will be the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, effective May 5, 2023.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement by the Group CEO of Airtel Africa, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya. Cruz will also join the Executive Committee as the Regional Operating Director, reporting to the Airtel Africa Group CEO and the Board of Airtel Networks Ltd (Nigeria).
Cruz has more than 31 years of experience in business and corporate affairs across Africa and Asia, with his most recent position being the CEO and Managing Director of Unilever in West Africa. He has held leadership positions in various countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Francophone Africa, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and India.
With his marketing management degree from the University of De La Salle, Philippines, Cruz is expected to bring exceptional business experience, values, and a strong track record to Airtel.
He will succeed Mr. Chemmenkotil Surendran in this role. Ogunsanya expressed his excitement and confidence in working with Cruz to lead Airtel Nigeria towards achieving its corporate purpose of transforming lives.
