Two Nigerians join QED to handle its African projects
Quantum Electrodynamics, (QED), U.S. based investment firm, has appointed two Nigerians, Gbenga Ajayi, and Chidinma Iwueke as a partner in charge of African investments, and principal to assist international and domestic investments respectively. Their appointment was made public recently by the investment firm.
Commenting on the new additions to the firm, Nigel Morris, Managing Partner, QED Investors said: “Chidi is a wonderful addition to the QED team and we are thrilled to leverage her expertise and knowledge across all of our geographies. “She has outstanding verve, passion, and business acumen. Her eclectic background brings a wealth of viewpoints to our investment team which, combined with her exceptional ability to think methodically and in frameworks, will help QED continue to invest in the most transformative fintech entrepreneurs both home and abroad.”
Chidinma worked as a partner at Micro-traction, an investment firm with its headquarters in Lagos. She was integral in supporting several startups and structuring support for portfolio companies. She also worked as an equity research associate at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Similarly, Gbenga Ajayi worked at numerous IT startups in Africa before joining the QED team. At Wise, a cross-border remittance fintech business, he was the product director for SMB development. He was also the head of strategic relationships for Revolut, a Neobank based in Europe, and spent six years at Google, where he rose through the ranks from managing telecom sector alliances with clients in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa to product partnerships lead for Europe and Africa. He initiated Google events in Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and France in this capacity.
They were both co-founders having both co-founded a start-up company each with respective partners. Chidinma was a founding member of a healthcare startup and its head of business development while Gbenga was a co-founder of Kanza Ventures, a Fintech-focused seed investment business in Africa.
Chidinma holds an MBA from Colombia Business School, while Gbenga is pursuing his MBA at London Business School.
