Zenith Bank Fair: The future of tech is AGI – King

Brett King, founder Moven and author of Bank 4.0, at the Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2022, has said the future of tech is not just the artificial intelligence but other stages like Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Hyper-Intelligent where robot will be taught how to do things like human and perhaps replace some jobs.
According to King, even though robots are going to change the health sector to how we generate electricity and make life easy, the goal of creating AI is to create a companion from an intelligent perceptive.
“There is a lot of uncertainty that the COVID-19 pandemic created; the impact in terms of the economy and global recession in addition to climate change which is a real concern for people. We also have the impact of artificial intelligence like robots that will be impacting the way we think about employment on the planet.
“When we talk about AI, we are talking about three stages of development – right now we talk about machine learning and deep learning. But the next phase of AI is what we call Artificial General Intelligence; this is when we can have computers or machines mimic human intelligence. They may not be the same as the type of intelligence we have but they would be to convince us that they are conscious, and would be able to have conversations with us,” he said.
“Advance technology is going to have a great impact on healthcare. With AI, DNA and genes are easy to read and genetic disorders can be corrected by putting the right amount of protein in the gene with the use of AI, which was not possible in the 1980s. AI is now performing human doctors in terms of diagnoses and these are smarter because machine learning is able to collect all of the expertise of the best doctors and apply it. All these are possible but they require a broad implementation of technology in our societies,” he explained.
He added that with AGI, it will be possible to teach the robot anything that humans can do, as the goal of creating AI is to be able to have a companion from an intelligent perspective. While noting the downside of it, he said that if machines can do what humans can do then they can replace us when it comes to employment.
King noted that, according to prediction by 2035, robots may be more than humans on the planet.
“The next phase of this technology is Hyper-Intelligent; these are machines that are smarter than humans and that present to us with real philosophical decisions to make or to grapple with. We have never had to live on the planet with intelligence that catches us in terms of our creativity and thinking power, this is going to represent that shift. Part of this is that robots are going to be on the planet; in fact, we think by 2035, that there will be more robots on the planet than humans,” he said.
He explained that even though the world is building AI and robots, by the time robots are more than humans on the planet, then it will be a problem in the future.
“Drones are going to be the distribution channels, so drivers that are delivering takeouts will be maybe replaced by drones and this certainly is going to happen in modern economies. To power this smart economy of the future, we are going to have to invest in lots of energy systems but not burning coal or natural gas,” he said.
