W’ Bank injects over $200m into Ekiti development initiatives

The World Bank has announced that it injected over 200 million dollar into Ekiti State’s development initiatives.
This was recently disclosed by the bank’s country director, Dr. Ndiame Diop.
While emphasizing the importance of effective collaboration with the state Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives, Dr. Diop hinted that about 60 million dollar of the total amount had already been disbursed to execute projects in healthcare, education, women empowerment, and sanitation.
His disclosure followed the appeal made by the State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for enhanced collaboration with local and international development agencies to foster comprehensive economic growth in the state.
Governor Oyebanji made the call during a strategic meeting with heads of development agencies held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
The Governor highlighted Ekiti State’s focus on partnerships that emphasize cooperation and resource sharing rather than mere aid.
According to him, the present administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and creating a favorable business environment underscores the state’s high rankings in transparency, ease of doing business, and safety.
While outlining Ekiti’s 30-year development plan and urging development partners to invest in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and education, the governor assured potential investors of the state’s dedication to mobilizing resources and support to drive growth in these critical areas.
Governor Oyebanji further used the occasion to give an update on the status of the Ado Ekiti airport project, noting that it is on track to commence commercial operations by the end of the year, pending certification by relevant aviation authorities.
Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning, and Performance Management, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, highlighted areas where Ekiti has competitive advantages and outlined the state’s collaboration needs.
Similarly, the Director General of the Office of Development Partnerships, Mr. Biodun Oyeleye, provided an overview of the administration’s six-pillar development agenda, detailing key areas for potential involvement by development agencies.
