Unregistered Marketing Practitioners to be Sanctioned from January 2018 – NIMN Boss
President of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), Tony Agenmonmen, has re-emphasized that starting from January 2018, unregistered marketing practitioners will not be allowed to practice marketing in the country.
He disclosed this to MARKETING EDGE recently in Lagos, explaining that such practitioners are operating in violation of the NIMN Act No. 25 of 2003 and are liable to be sanctioned.
He, therefore, stated that as from the January deadline, organizations seeking to recruit marketing practitioners into their marketing departments will have to put NIMN membership as a compulsory requirement for selection.
“You will remember that earlier this year, we got the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah to do the formal proclamation of the Institute. What that means is that the Act formally came into operation on that day.
“So, from next year, like I said, if you are not certificated, you cannot practice Marketing. Two, all organizations from January next year, will have to make it a requirement in their recruitment notices. If they are putting up an advert that they want to recruit Brand Managers or Marketing Managers, part of the requirements will be membership of NIMN and I think that is a kind of value we are creating for our members”, he explained.
He said that in addition, the Institute will embark on more advocacy come January next year.
In his words, “I can assure you that from next year, you will see the kind of advocacy that we will do in terms of making our expertise as Marketers valuable to government in terms of pushing forward their policies.
“Already, we have started doing a bit of that. Last month, for example, our chapter in Port Harcourt actually did a whole programme which had to do with how to support the government’s growth plan”, the NIMN boss disclosed.
To be legal marketers, a person must be admitted into and be registered as a member of the Institute. Members of the Institute are designated according to their levels of membership. The categories are: Fellow (fnimn), Full Member (mnimn), Associate Member (animn), Graduate and Student.
