SON moves to tackle substandard products
Acting Director General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Mr. Paul Angya, has said that the agency was set to tackle the adverse impact of substandard products in the country.
Angya noted that the influx of sub-standard products had impacted negatively on the economy and prevented local industries from thriving, adding that it has further led to the closure of many industries across the country.
According to him, the agency had been working hard to complement President Muhammadu Buhari’s effort at reviving the economy.
“Let me tell you that my team and I are working frantically round the clock to complement President Buhari’s efforts at repositioning the country’s ailing economy and shame the conspiracy of a segment of the society, whose vision is to dust the country more in the muddy waters. I can tell you that less than 100,000 heads are involved in these unwholesome acts and God willing, this is a war that would be won,” he said.
The SON chief noted that one of the strategies to bail out the country from the economic recession include focusing on agricultural products, such as soyabeans, local rice, cashew, melon and others, stressing that efforts were on to ensure good seed selection, harvest, processing, packaging, labelling, storage and fumigation of the products.
