Sara by Wema introduces Big Sister Project to advance equity for women

In furtherance of its commitment to improving the financial, economic and social life of women, Wema Bank has introduced the Big Sister Project, an initiative which will foster equity for women through mentorship, empowerment, and training programmes.
Introduced through the bank’s female proposition, Sara by Wema, the Big Sister Project will ensure the continued creation of opportunities for women to grow and achieve success in their careers.
Commenting on the initiative at the recently concluded 2023 International Women’s Day Celebrations which was held at the Civic Centre in Lagos, renowned international speaker and coach, Fela Durotoye said that the idea of the big sister stems from the Bank’s mission to advance the cause of the 40 women who had just completed their leadership mentoring programme so they can also become mentors to other women.
Moruf Oseni, managing director, Wema Bank PLC who presented the certificate of completion to the women alongside the ChairPerson of the Wema Women Network, Mrs Toying Karenren buttressed the bank’s commitment to ensuring that women are provided with not just equal opportunities as men, but also equitable access to opportunities that will help them achieve success in their personal and professional lives.
The International Women’s Day celebration also featured a panel discussion centered on the topic of equity and how women can achieve economic growth in their careers and businesses.
Led by keynote speaker Audrey Joe-Ezigbo, the panelists were Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, Disability Rights Advocate, Fela Durotoye, Founder/CEO GEMSTONE Leadership Group, and Tosin Olaseinde, Founder of Money Africa and Ladda.
The Bank recognized and awarded Mrs Abimbola Olufumilola Payne as its Oldest Female customer, and Sarah Anuoluwapo as its Most Engaging Customer.
Sara by Wema is a vibrant community designed to give the Nigerian woman the capacity to participate in, wholly contribute to and fully benefit from growth opportunities that help maximize their personal and /or business goals.
The initiative makes available to women access to low interest business loans, assistance with a business pitch to access specialized funding from different institutions, free SME support and business advisory services, deals and discounts with different partners, and access to high interest savings plans among others.
