Otufodunrin takes MARKETING EDGE’s workforce on masterclass
By Abimbola Mohammed
MARKETING EDGE, Nigeria’s leading brand-centric and marketing publication, has held a masterclass with Lekan Otufodunrin, CEO of Media Career Development Network, as the facilitator. The masterclass was designed to fire up MARKETING EDGE’s workforce so as to maintain its leadership in delivering best of news that touches the heart of the industry, marketing insight, trends, new technology, industry conversation and in setting agenda in Nigeria’s Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) space and other sectors of the economy.
The masterclass, which had the theme: “Pursuit of Excellence in Media Practice and Management”, had in attendance the entire MARKETING EDGE Group workforce, including MEDIA EDGE, centred on how the group can continue to deliver value by providing information, insight and business intelligence to its public, and the IMC ecosystem, in particular.
According to the media professional, a good way for MARKETING EDGE to start the year and continue its strategic role as the go-to platform is by reappraising and auditing its industry leadership in content creation, annual awards and summit, audience engagement, digital strategy, revenue development and digital product. He noted that, as people look forward to receiving the aforementioned services, there is a need to stay ahead of the curve through relentless pursuit of excellence.
“There is a need to pursue excellence as the New Year offers an opportunity to review past performances and set new goals. Standards don’t remain static because what was good last year may no longer be good in the New Year. You don’t have a monopoly on ideas and the market, you need to always develop your ideas and also innovate,” he said.
The media expert emphasised the importance of innovation if any organisation must remain at the top, noting that every going concern should avoid complacency if it must be extraordinary and earn maximum revenue.
The media specialist mentioned that, for every functioning news website, content auditing of coverage of various sections is important as optimization of uploaded reports, new sources to quote in news reportage, digital strategy, new products and services, e-books, new templates for newsletter and content marketing is vital.
Expressing his willingness to invest in employee training, John Ajayi, the CEO/Publisher of MARKETING EDGE Magazine, stressed the need to reduce skill gaps, improve performance, and keep up-to-date with industry trends.
“I am a firm believer that continuous training such as this will feed the ambition of talented employees, whose drive to succeed will, ultimately, add to their overall productivity and growth of the industry,” he said.
The masterclass ended with a vote of thanks given by Amos Oladele, Group Chief Operating Officer and the entire staff appreciating the opportunity accorded to them to remain up-to-date and focused on the delivery of excellence.
Mr. Otufodunrin, a veteran journalist and media career development specialist with over 30 years of media industry experience, is presently the Executive Director, Media Career Development Network, Nigeria’s foremost media mentoring and coaching organisation.
He is the former Managing Editor and Sunday Editor at The Nation Newspapers, and former Group News and Political Editor at The Punch Newspapers. He is the founder of Journalists for Christ and a fellow of Thomson Foundation, Poynter Institute and Bloomberg Africa Media Fellowship.
