As per the report, Nigerian Netflix originals Shanty Town and Far From Home secured positions in the top 10 most-watched Netflix African Original content. Shanty Town claimed the second spot on the list, accumulating 27,300,000 hours, following closely behind Unseen S1 from South Africa, which held the lead with 60,000,000 hours of watch time. Far From Home, well-received with positive reviews, secured the tenth position with 9,800,000 hours.
The “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report” marks its inaugural release, encompassing viewing hours from January to June 2023. It’s important to note that any new programming introduced on Netflix after June 2023 is not included in this report.
In a fresh press statement, Netflix declared its intention to release the What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report biannually. This report is described as a comprehensive overview of the shows and movies viewed by subscribers over a six-month period. It encompasses details such as the global availability of a title, the premiere date of the TV show or movie, and the number of hours devoted to watching original or licensed content.
The initial report from Netflix disclosed that the top-ranking show in terms of viewing hours was the first season of The Night Agent, amassing a staggering 812 million hours viewed worldwide. Additional notable statistics from content within the Top 10 category encompass Season 1 of Wednesday with 507.7 million viewing hours, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and the fourth season of You, each garnering over 440 million hours viewed.
“This is a big step forward for Netflix and our industry,” Netflix wrote in the press release. “We believe the viewing information in this report — combined with our weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists — will give creators and our industry deeper insights into our audiences and what resonates with them.”
The release of the What We Watched engagement report provides a significantly detailed breakdown of the number of hours subscribers are investing in some of the most popular shows.
