Juror – Mrs. Olubunmi Oke is the Chief Executive Officer/Lead Consultant of Ladybird Ltd, a budding new generation advertising agency in Nigeria. Before founding her own agency Bunmi, as she is fondly called, was the pioneer Chief Operating Officer/Executive Director of one of the leading integrated marketing communications agency in Nigeria – 141 Worldwide (now NITRO 121) (an international agency which is a member of the WPP group, the largest communications group in the world).
In that capacity, she led a prolific team of professionals and built the agency into a prominent world-class advertising agency in Nigeria, handling several multinational accounts including British American Tobacco – West Africa Area, Etisalat Nigeria (now 9Mobile), SWIPHA, First Bank of Nigeria, Multichoice/DSTV, Cadbury Nigeria Plc, and many others.
Parading a career which has spanned more than 30 years, this Amazon of the Nigerian Advertising industry has traversed the industry with such gut and gait as to have risen to being the 17th (and 2nd Female) President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), a Council member of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), and a Fellow of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, (APCON) being one of the (only) four women in Nigeria who have attained that dizzying height in the industry. She is also a Council member at WIMBIZ.
Bunmi is a British-born Nigerian (with over 30 years’ experience). She started her career in advertising at Grant Advertising (a McCann – Erickson affiliate) in 1986, where she worked as a PR Executive/Account Management trainee. Joining LTC (now JWT ) advertising in 1989, her exceptional organizational and presentation skills resulted in her rising through the ranks rapidly over 10 years to become the first female client service director.
Mrs. Oke went to some of the best schools in Nigeria, being an alumnus of the University of Lagos, Queen’s College, Yaba, and Holy Child College, Obalende, all in Lagos.
This advertising Amazon is well travelled and has attended several business and advertising courses in Nigeria and abroad. She was also a recipient of the 2011 Vital Voices – Wimbiz & Exxon – Mobil ToT EinH training in Uganda programme, for a female marketing communications specialist in Nigeria.
