It was glitz, glamour and fun Thursday evening as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of 11 Plc (formerly Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc), Mr Adetunji Oyebanji paid a scheduled visit to MARKETING EDGE corporate head office in Lagos.
The renowned marketing guru, who recently bagged the prestigious MARKETING EDGE Lifetime Achievement in Marketing, was reporters’ delight as he granted a no holds barred industry conversation with the top management and editorial staff of the leading marketing and advertising magazine. During the over one hour interactive chat, Oyebanji, former Chairman, Board of Fellows of National Institute Of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) and a leading corporate leader in Nigeria, regaled our team with exciting and inspiring tales of his career trajectory and how it all began just like a child’ s play.
“In the course of my nearing 40 years career, I can confidently say that hard work, consistency, integrity and prayer are very essential to whatever you set out to achieve in life,” he averred.
Although born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Adetunji Oyebanji never allowed the luxury and opulence around him at birth to becloud his sense of mission and vision in life. He is a stickler for time, hard work, integrity and honour.
Groomed and Schooled in the philosophy of charity begins at home, Oyebanji, who clocks 40 years on 29 December this year as an employee of the multinational oil giant, is a study in success and determination. Upon graduating tops with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of Lagos, Adetunji Oyebanji had the unique opportunity to do his mandatory National Youth Service ( NYSC) at the then Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc. Upon completion of his service year, he would not be allowed to go because of his invaluable assets to the company, thus the beginning of a journey that has today taken him to the pinnacle of his career as Chief Executive Officer of the company.
On how he would describe current marketing practice in Nigeria, Oyebanji said: “Marketing has evolved in Nigeria just as it has evolved around the world. We may not be where we should be, but we have evolved. The practice of marketing in this clime is not far behind.”
Ever since his assumption of office as the CEO of this great company, he has been recording one giant stride after the other. Today, the board and management of 11 PLc are proud of their choice and selection as he has successfully midwifed a smooth and seamless transition for the company after a major restructuring and acquisition.
