Lagos introduces innovative app to reduce indiscriminate parking

In line with its smart city drive mantra and agenda, the Lagos State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with ARCA Payment Ltd to develop a parking payment application that would enhance coordinated operations between its parking authority and the public. The initiative is aimed at discouraging indiscriminate parking habits, leveraging technological approach to improve the parking process and cars’ positioning to enable the state to suit its mega city status.
Revealing the status of the partnership, Adebisi Adelabu, the General Manager, Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), through the Head, Public Affairs Unit, Abayomi Ariba, said it was cemented as a strategic initiative with ARCA Payment Ltd in Lagos. He added that the authority had adopted innovative ways in providing lasting solutions to parking challenges, for a safe and secure environment.
Adelabu said that the ultimate aim was to give Lagos residents the best and most suitable parking experience. According to her, “this is a commitment towards integrating technological solutions into the authority’s parking management system.
“The partnership was to improve the overall parking system by ensuring a seamless transaction process for permits, registration, and enquiry, among others. It would provide a user-friendly system whilst building an accurate database to manage parking proceedings for the state.”
She explained that the initiative guaranteed a stress-free process for end users of the authority’s services, emphasising the effect on reconciliation and revenue assurance for the government.
The General Manager emphasised the authority’s commitment toward supporting various organisations and business entities to identify and proffer long-term solutions to their parking challenges.
She said that the authority had observed that most organisations operating in the state lacked adequate parking space, which contributed to indiscriminate parking.
While describing the various interventions introduced to reduce indiscriminate parking, she said that the government had started the installation of signage and lane markings in phases across the state. She also noted that enforcement of parking regulations had significantly reduced road mishaps and traffic congestion across the metropolis.
“The signage and lane markings are to guide motorists and pedestrians on available parking lots and I urged the public to support the authority’s efforts towards improving the parking system of the state,” she noted.
Speaking on behalf of ARCA Payment Ltd, Oluwadare Owolabi, the MD/CEO, ARCA Payment Ltd, lauded the initiative by the state government, in ensuring the provision of a well regulated parking across the state in line with the smart city drive.
Owolabi said that the integration of the application solution to manage parking proceedings would further promote effective customer service, accountability and transparency for all organisations and business entities.
He said plans are underway to begin intensive training for staff of the authority on how to navigate through the application software.
Owolabi explained that all efforts were geared toward providing a smooth, quick and result-oriented process for the public to access parking services.
