JIS Teachers tasked as Brand Ambassadors

Citadel of learning, Journalists International Schools (JIS), in its commitment to building an enduring and effective legacy in education, has held its annual staff seminar to help teachers acquire basic training to promote professionalism and global best practices that will help them face the new realities across the globe in the educational system.
This year’s edition was nothing short of expectation as it was packed with enriching and educative activities.
John Ajayi, the former chairman of Journalist Estate Residence Development Association (JERDA), under whose tenure the school was established, while making a groundbreaking presentation, urged the teachers to be more enthusiastic and passionate in their chosen career.
Focusing on the theme: “Education, a Legacy In Need of Dedication”, Mr. Ajayi challenged the teachers to be brand ambassadors of JIS. He pointed out that as stakeholders, they need to deliberately go out to improve themselves through self-development and motivation.
As a seasoned journalist who has traversed the world of journalism, mass communication, branding and marketing, Ajayi noted that a thoroughbred teacher with passion for teaching would always get financial rewards because, according to him, “the results of their genuine works would always manifest and showcase them for financial reward”.
Akin Jimoh, CEO, Development Communications & Chair, Peace Committee, in his presentation titled: “Managing a School as a Business Concern”, explained how the business of a school is providing solid education which is a service for pupils & students who are customers with good investment. He advised that such a going-concern should be nurtured with care by all stakeholders, so it can always produce desired results which are outstanding pupils and students.
The Acting School Principal, Razak Olatunji who presented two papers titled: “The Competent Teacher” and “Planning Lesson Notes”, mentioned that a competent teacher is a leader who wins the hearts and minds of the students. He noted that such a teacher sees the value in developing and working with others, including parents and colleagues, while actively seeking out opportunities for professional collaboration within and beyond the school.
Taking the teachers through a template, Mr. Olatunji stressed the importance of a lesson plan, saying: “A lesson plan is a guide to lesson preparation, a guide to effective teaching.”
The seminar was put together to enlighten, retrain and update JIS teachers on new methods and skills of a 21st-century teacher. The objective of the annual seminar, which started in 2018, is to expose all the graduate teachers in the school to up-to-date and effective teaching techniques which in turn would enhance the quality teaching/ learning environment for JIS pupils and students. In addition to enabling teachers acquire new understanding and instructional skills, the seminar also focuses on enabling teachers to develop their effectiveness in the classroom.
This year’s well-packaged programme featured presentations by former chairman of JERDA under whose tenure the School was established, Mr. Ajayi who is also the Publisher of MARKETING EDGE, Africa’s foremost brand & marketing magazine; Mr. Jimoh, CEO, Development Communications & Chair, Peace Committee, as well as the acting School Principal, Mr. Olatunji.
Meanwhile, the Executive council of JERDA under the able leadership of Mrs. Adedayo Olufunke Fadugba has formally inaugurated the board of JIS international schools. The event which held same day of the seminar also witnessed the election of the Executive committee of the board. Elected as new Chairman of the Board is the Publisher of MARKETING EDGE, Mr. John Ajayi while the Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists, Lagos state council Mr. Adeleye Ajayi was elected Vice-Chairman even as the current General Secretary of JERDA, Mr. Toye Olori emerged the Secretary of the board. Other eminent members of the board are; Mrs. Olofunke Fadugba, Chairman, JERDA Barrister Omobolade Rotimi Asaolu and Mrs. Omonon Akhuga. Other members of the board are Mrs. Olutosi Salako, Mr. Oludare Mayowa, Prince Adeyinka Adebayo, Mrs. Bolanle Agbona and Mrs. Yinka Shokunbi.
