Instagram finally launched its video editing app, ‘Edits,’ on Tuesday (April 22), following an announcement made by CEO Adam Mosseri in January.

The launch of Edits was announced shortly after news broke of a potential ban on ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok and CapCut, in the United States. The move is widely seen as a strategic attempt to fill the void left by the company’s possible exit from the U.S. market.

Edits is an all-in-one powerful video editing app chock-full of interesting features to help experimental content creators through the entire creative process from ideation, active creation to post-publishing with features like:

Camera tab where users can record videos of up to 10 minutes, control features like resolution and frame rates, and flash and zoom controls.

An idea tab where you can note down your ideas and also access your saved posts from Instagram for further inspiration.

Talking about inspirations, it has a dedicated inspirations tab where you see the best-performing reels from Instagram to show you what’s blowing up and spur your ideas.

Of course, a projects tab for all your video editing and an Insights tab which provides analytics for your reels’ performance with breakdowns of engagement between followers and non-followers, as well as analysis of factors affecting your reels, such as skip rates and recommendation chances.

Its direct integration with Instagram makes the app only accessible with an account. An integration that aims to onboard thousands of content creators who will be interested in figuring out how they may enhance their content creation efforts on the platform.

Also, with TikTok’s uncertain future in the United States, the launch of Edits appears to be a strategic move to take the throne and be the go-to content creation and video editing app.
