FG unveils national carrier name, logo as Nigeria Air takes off soon
The Federal Government has unveiled Nigeria Air as the name of the new national carrier scheduled to take off in December and a logo encompassing the flowing green white and green ribbon.
The new airline will have a white livery with the national flag ribbon around its aircraft and also have as the motto: Bringing Nigeria Closer to the World.
The unveiling which was done at the Farnborough Air Show in London further exemplified government’s seriousness in resurrecting a national airline for the country after the former airline, Nigeria Airways was liquidated in 2003 by former President Olusegun Obasanjo by fiat.
The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, engaged the Management of Aeroplane, manufacturers Airbus, in negotiations for the acquisition of the desired aircraft.
According to the Minister, the ongoing International Air Show was an opportunity to negotiate with airline manufacturers with a view to getting the most competitive and best value-for-money deals for the country.
He said he would also explore every opportunity available at the Air Show, an event that brings the biggest and the best in the industry to attract more prospective investors into the Nigerian aviation environment given the ongoing efforts to establish a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Nigeria, Concession of some airports in the country and other components of the Aviation Roadmap which the federal government launched at its inception.
