AB InBev CEO calls for global action against racism
AB InBev, a Belgian multinational drink and brewing company, has added its voice to the organised civil disobedience sweeping through United States of America, Black Lives Matter (BLM) in protest against incidents of police brutality against African-American people saying the time to break silence and speak up against racism across the globe was now.
AB InBev Chief Executive Officer, Carlos Brito, stated in his LinkedIn handle that the world had been unjust, unfair and silent for too long over the ills of racism.
He noted that though no one has all the answers to end racism, but as a responsible corporate global player, AB InBev uses its platform and influence to inspire change.
“At AB InBev our purpose is to bring people together for a better world. When we chose these words some years ago, it would be difficult to imagine how meaningful that would be today.’
Speaking on what could be seen as a global conspiracy of silence and inaction against racism, Brito stated: “For too many, for too long, the world has been unfair and unjust, where fear is constant, and voices go unheard. Meanwhile, many who have the power to speak out stay quiet.
“As people across the world have shown, now is the time to speak up. While no one has all the answers to combat racism and inequality, what we do have at AB InBev is the ability to use our platform and influence to inspire change. We have a global footprint, yet our business is local. Our strength comes from the deep connections with the communities where we live and work. When our communities hurt, we hurt. What’s happening to our black communities matters. It’s personal and painful, and we must do better.” He assured.
Stating further, he noted that there were many conversations to be had, much listening to do and more actions to be taken if racism must be done away with globally.
He promised that as a responsible corporate citizen, Ab InBev was committed to walking the talk to ensure racism is brought to its knees.
“But one promise I can make is that you can count on us to do what we say. Our purpose as a company drives our actions and we will continue to work for bringing people together for a better and equal world,” Brito assured.
