Founding President of the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN), Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, has lauded the Society’s two-decade journey. He praised its promotion of ethical leadership and corporate accountability. Furthermore, he described its members as “walking classrooms” of integrity and responsibility.

Ajogwu gave the commendation in his goodwill message. This message was delivered during the Society’s 20th Anniversary Gala and Corporate Governance Awards. The event took place in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The 20th Anniversary Gala featured the maiden Corporate Governance Awards segment. This segment spotlighted institutions and individuals. Their exemplary leadership, commitment to transparency, accountability, and innovation continue, consequently, to redefine governance standards across sectors.

In furtherance of its 20th Anniversary of corporate governance, SCGN launched a pro bono governance advisory initiative. This initiative provides free board advisory services to SMEs and Non-Profit Organisations (NPO).

Beneficiaries of the initiative expressed appreciation to the Society. They thanked it for its continued support and leadership. They also congratulated the Society on its milestone anniversary. Reflecting on the Society’s milestones, Ajogwu praised the dedication of its Fellows and members. According to him, they embody the core values of good governance.

“Our Fellows are walking classrooms of what it means to be ethical, responsible leaders. As we celebrate 20 years, we do so with pride in the progress we have made. We also have determination for the road ahead. Therefore, our celebrations today inspire us to work even harder towards our purpose. We will continue to set the stage for the future,” he said.

Ajogwu, who pioneered SCGN’s establishment two decades ago, emphasised that the anniversary was not just a celebration. Instead, it was a call to strengthen the foundation of governance across Nigeria’s corporate and public institutions. He added, furthermore, on the need for continuous learning, integrity, and accountability. These are vital ingredients for sustainable leadership.

The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) was established to advance ethical practices and strengthen leadership capacity. It continues to play a central role in shaping governance standards in the country. It achieves this through advocacy, training, and policy engagement.

Also speaking at the Gala and Corporate Governance Awards, President of SCGN, Mr. Muhammad K. Ahmad, commended the Society’s growing impact within the private sector. He stated that “In terms of compliance within the private sector, I believe we are doing very well.

“The progress we have made underscores the relevance of our mission. It also shows the continued importance of strong governance in building sustainable institutions,” He said.
