Tonye Cole headlines Nestlé Needs YOUths virtual internship
In line with Nestlé’s Needs YOUths initiative to reduce youth unemployment globally, Nestlé Nigeria has announced a virtual internship programme for qualified youths from higher institutions pan Nigeria.
The program which coincides with the commemoration of International Youth Day 2020, aimed to transfer required international skills for the workplace on the participating youths.
Founder and former Group Executive Director, Mr. Tonye Cole, will be the keynote speaker. He will speak on “The Role of The Nigerian Youths In Business And Governance.”
Other speakers are Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Business School, Dipo Awojide, who will take on “Navigating Your Career Path”, Nestle Nigeria Head of Human Resources, Sola Akinyosoye (The Ideal Candidate) and his counterpart in the Corporate and Public Affairs, Victoria Uwadoka, who will be speaking on “Personal Branding in The Work Place’.
Nestlé Needs YOUth Nigeria initiative focuses on three key areas of action, including employment and employability, agripreneurship and entrepreneurship. These initiatives comprise Technical Training, My Own Business (MYOWBU), Youth Agripreneurship Development Programme (YADIS), and Employability Skills Building programmes in collaboration with other stakeholders, including the Lagos State Government, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) Lagos Business School (LBS) and various tertiary institutions.
According to Akinyosoye, “Nestlé’s Technical Training program has benefitted over 100 students so far, with over 90% of them directly employed by the company. One person lifted out of poverty translates to positive impact on the whole family and on whole communities. So, together with our partners, The Swiss Embassy in Nigeria, the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), we will continue to invest in the education and capacity development of youth to help reduce the burden of unemployment while creating a pipeline of skilled technicians for our business and for the industry at large.”
