Lagos is set for a significant infrastructure milestone as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu embarks on a two-day working visit to commission key projects across the state, headlined by the long-anticipated Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge.

The presidential visit, scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 to Thursday, April 9, 2026, will spotlight a range of strategic developments aimed at easing urban mobility and improving public infrastructure.

At the centre of the visit is the 5.04-kilometre Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, a transformative project designed to decongest traffic within the Ikeja corridor and along the ever-busy Ikorodu Road axis.

Originally conceived over two decades ago, the project was revived by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2022 under the Traffic Management and Transportation pillar of his THEMES Agenda.

Construction officially commenced on January 26, 2022, with delivery handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. Beyond the main bridge, the project encompasses a network of supporting infrastructure, including the reconstruction of Opebi Road, the Odo Alaro Bridge, two Odo Alaro underpasses, deck-on-pile link bridges, and the upgrade of the Maryland U-turn.

Once operational, the link is expected to provide a direct route connecting Opebi, Mende, Maryland, and Ojota. This will significantly reduce travel time for commuters while easing congestion around Allen Avenue, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, and Ikorodu Road, some of Lagos’ most traffic-prone corridors.

To ensure order during the commissioning, no fewer than 500 officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed across key points to manage vehicular and pedestrian movement.

The Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge is one of several projects slated for inauguration during the visit. Others include the Lagos State Geographic Information Service building, the Lagos Multi-Agency Building in Alausa, the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Abijo, and the Maracana Stadium, a facility featuring 19 mini-football pitches also located in Ajegunle.

Describing the project as a fulfilment of a long-standing commitment, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, noted that the bridge stands as “a promise made and well delivered.”
