TECNO unveils Phantom 6, 6 Plus in Lagos
Following a glamorous launch last Sunday at the prestigious Armani Hotel located in the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, TECNO Mobile has brought two of its flagship for 2016 – TECNO Phantom 6 (nicknamed The Beauty) and Phantom 6 Plus (nicknamed The Beast) – to Nigeria.
The Smart phones were officially unveiled to the members of the Press at the organisation’s Nigerian office in Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday.
Describing it as the world’s slimmest dual camera phone, TECNO Mobile’s Deputy Marketing Manager Nigeria (Digital), Mr. Jesse Oguntimehin gave a presentation of the features and functions of the device.
Fitted with an in-built high-level camera sensor by Sony, the phone’s dual camera is used for refocusing; a function ordinarily carried out by only full-fledged cameras. Having an 18MP camera, the 13MP camera shows view, while the 5MP camera provides more depth and clarity to the picture.
The Phantom 6 is powered by 3GB RAM for smoother operations with 32GB ROM leg room, expandable to 128GB. TECNO Phantom 6 enjoys improved processor speed at 2.0GHz, MediaTek’sHelio P10 chipset. Upgraded in various ways, the new Phantom 6 allows for faster charging as well as data transfer.
On the other hand, the Phantom 6 Plus which has been dubbed as ‘The Beast’ because it is a bigger version of the Phantom 6 with a 6.0 inch FHD LTPS Capacitive touch screen 4GB RAM , 64GB Storage and 4050mAh battery.
Despite its seemingly delicate look, the Phantom 6 series come with a five-layer body metal making it more durable. Comprising a Nano molding seamless metal unibody, a firm fastener, a non-detachable battery design and an aluminum magnesium alloy frame, the phone also has its back slightly curved to enable a firmer grip.
The Phantom 6 Plus makes use of a Deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 chipset which means a user can run up to 32 apps concurrently without any interruption. During the Dubai launch, MediaTek said that the Helio X20 chipset saves battery by 30 percent.
To forestall against hacking, the Phantom 6 provides a biometric iris scanner which scans your eyes before unlocking the device. However, the Phantom 6 Plus comes with both the iris scanner, a fingerprint reader at the back and an antivirus lock.
For the first time, TECNO’s new flagship phones support the USB TYPE-C port which allows for reversible plug orientation, fast charging and data transfer from Phantom 6 to other devices.
The new devices also boast of many other upgrades compared to its predecessors, the Phantom Z (launched in 2014) and Phantom 5 (launched in 2015).
According to Deputy Marketing Manager Nigeria (PR/ Events and Sponsorship), Mr. Attai Oguche, pre-ordering for the new smart phones have begun, with the Phantom 6 costing N88,000 while the Phantom 6 Plus costs N128,000.
Since 2006, TECNO entrenched itself as one of the most sort-after phone brands across Africa. However, the mobile phone makers intend to break into more markets.
“This was the reason we chose Dubai for the global launch of phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus. We are not in the Middle-East so we used that launch to enter the market. Dubai is a business hub and it is more like the centre of the Middle-East,” Oguche said.
Present in all African countries, Oguche stated that Nigeria however remains TECNO’s largest African market with 31.1 percent of the market share, followed by Kenya and Tanzania.
Unlike most other phone brands, TECNO delivers the same quality of products across all markets, added Oguntimehin.
