Ruwase becomes LCCI President as Nike Akande ends tenure in style
The immediate past Deputy President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, Mr. Babatunde Paul Ruwase, is now the new President and Chairman of Council of the 129-year old institution.
At an election which was conducted during the Chamber’s 129th AGM, which held at the Commerce House head office of the Chamber earlier, today, Ruwase, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, who had been duly nominated prior to the AGM, was unanimously voted for by all LCCI members who were present at the meeting.
Also elected to run the affairs of the Chamber for the next two years are: Mrs. Toki Mabogunje and Mr. Knut Ulvmoen, MFR as Deputy Presidents; while Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, CON, Messrs Soboma Ajumogobia, Verkey Verghese, MFR, Sola Oyetayo, FCA, and Gabriel Idahosa, FCA, as well as Mrs. Agnes Shobajo were elected as Vice Presidents.
Other elected officials are Mr. Bayo Olugbemi, FCA, and Mrs. Bamidele Daramola, FCA, both of who emerged as Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer, respectively.
Meanwhile, Chief (Dr. Mrs.) Nike Akande, CON, ended her two-year tenure in grand style as she presented the Chamber’s Annual Report for the 2016/2017 fiscal year and coordinated the proceedings at the AGM with candour, to the admiration and adulation of all attendees.
In her presentation, the corporate Amazon and business guru gave detailed reports of the Chamber, dwelling extensively on the various committees and their impressive score cards during the year under review. She commended all of them for combining their talents and efforts as well as pooling resources together to move the Chamber forward, despite the challenges of the time.
In particular, she noted with delight, that the profile of the Chamber as the voice of the private sector in Nigeria was sustained, a development which, according to her, enabled the Chamber to take up issues with Governments and their MDAs as well as private sector operators from time to time with positive responses from relevant quarters.
Also of significant note and personal delight to the out gone President was the Chamber’s record of adding a total of 465 new members to its list during the period. This, according to her, was the highest in a year in the entire history of the Chamber.
The investiture dinner for Ruwase as the new President of LCCI holds at the Eko Hotel & Suites later, this evening. Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode is being expected as the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
