OAAN offers window of opportunity for unregistered outdoor agencies to become members
Worried by the activities of illegal practitioners and unlicensed organisations infiltrating the outdoor advertising industry in Nigeria, the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) has offered a window opportunity for unregistered outdoor agency operators in Nigeria to become members of the association.
In a paid newspaper advertisement titled “window of opportunity”, OAAN invited unregistered practitioners to come forward and pick up the association’s registration forms for only N10 000. OAAN noted that the forms can be picked from OAAN Head Quarter or some regulatory agency offices, including Lagos State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA).
This move comes bare three months after OAAN elected Emmanuel Ajufo, CEO of Opportunity To See as its new president. Upon his election, Ajufo immediately promised to take practical steps to sanitise the industry and rid it of the activities of quacks.
Speaking after his election in June 2019, Ajufo said the association would be all out to make sure that non-members were not allowed to practice because, according to him, there were so many none members of the OAAN and were enjoying things outside the association and this has kept on troubling registered members of the association.
Ajufo said: “We intend to engage government some more on this and we hope that the result will positive for us.”
He also added that his team has the intention to bring in those that are outside into the association “because by the time we make it difficult for them to operate, they will join the association”.
Speaking earlier about unregistered practitioners, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) said it is a violation of Nigeria Advertising Law and Regulation for persons not registered as advertising practitioners and organisations and not licensed as advertising firms to practice advertising for gain and undertake the business of advertising.
