The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has refreshed its brand identity with the unveiling of its new logo. In addition, the oil & gas giant will henceforth be known as a NNPC Limited, a new Limited Liability Company and commercial entity of profitability, transparency and even more accountability to Nigerians.
The new logo, which wears vibrant green and red colours with new fonts, reflects NNPC Ltd as a new independent company with strength, capacity and market relevance.
Commenting during the historic transformative launch, President Muhammadu Buhari, who unveiled the new corporate brand, noted that it was a landmark event for the oil & gas industry, adding that it will place the country on the path of growth while playing an important role in sustaining global energy requirements.
“We are transforming our petroleum industry to strengthen its capacity and market relevance for the present and future of global energy priorities. By chance, I had the privilege to lead the creation of the Nigeria National Corporation on the 1st of July, 1977. 44 years later, I was again privileged to sign the Petroleum Industry Act bill in 2021.
“Heralding the long awaited reform of our petroleum sector, the PIA has given NNPC a new impetus with improved physical framework, transparent governance, enhanced regulation and the creation of a commercially driven and independent national oil company. They are to operate without relying on government funding and free from institutional relationships which is the treasury single federation account,” Buhari said.
On his part, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari said the rebirth marks a new beginning in the 44 years journey of NNPC and the energy sector, describing it as a new dawn, new hope and opportunities to upscale the nation’s relevance in the global energy community as Africa’s largest energy company.
“Today, we unveiled our dynamic and commercial driven energy company with focus on value creation for all stakeholders while sustainably delivering energy to the world, endowed with the best human resources one can find anywhere in the industry. NNPC Ltd is positioned to lead Africa’s gradual transition to new energy, by deepening natural gas production. We have taken a strategic initiative to achieve our mandate of ensuring energy security for our country,” he said.
Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, reaffirmed that the Petroleum Industry Act, birthed on 16 August, 2021, has helped NNPC to move to a new phase of development, adding that its new Identify encapsulates its vision for growth.
“The PIA bill was a landmark achievement and victory for all Nigerians after about two decades of dashed hopes. While the country was waiting for the Petroleum Industry Act, the Nigerian oil industry was about 50 billion dollars’ worth of investment. In fact, between 2015 and 2019, KPMG stated that only 4% of the 70 billion dollar investment inflows into Africa’s oil and gas came to Nigeria, even though the country is the continent’s biggest producer with the largest reserves,” he said.
The event came to a climax with the decoration of the President with the lapel that bears the new logo by Senator Margery Chuba Okadigbo, wife of late former Senate President, Dr Chuba Okadigbo, and the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
