Nigerian Breweries provides palliatives to NUJ Lagos Council to cushion Covid-19 effects
The Nigerian Breweries Plc has donated its products and other food items to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council.
Presenting the items to the NUJ executive, led by Dr. Qasim Akinreti, Chairman of the Council, Uchenna Ibemere, Head, NB plc Communication, said the products and items presented were meant to cushion the effects of Covid-19 pandemic on the Nigerian media industry.
He added that the Nigerian Breweries was equally concerned about the growing rate of deaths among journalists in the Lagos Council of the NUJ.
It will be recalled that seven members of NUJ Lagos State Council died at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
On his part, Dr. Akinreti appreciated the NB for its corporate social gesture towards journalists in Nigeria, adding that the consumer drinks giant had also offered assistance to the NUJ, Oyo State Council.
The NUJ chairman took the NB media team to the secretariat complex of the union, which is currently being remodeled at Iyalla Street, ikeja. The two storey complex will accommodate a training centre, congress hall, e-library and offices for the executives of the union.
While inspecting the project, Bolaji Abimbola, Managing Director of Integrated Indigo limited, commended the efforts of the Akinreti led executive for the initiative to uplift the image of media profession. He eulogized the good leadership qualities of Dr Akinreti, who happens to be his former teacher at the Lagos Business School (Advanced Writing Skills Class) in 2008.
According to him, “Dr Akinreti is a very determined, disciplined, focused, upright and thorough professional”. Mr. Abimbola commended him for the project renovation and also urged the NB to assist the Council to complete the project through branding of one of the functional rooms – the training room or congress hall.
In a similar gesture, Uchenna Ibemere, Head Of NB Plc Communication team promised to have a more robust relationship with the NUJ going by the tremendous impact the Akinreti led executive has had on the union and its members in terms of welfare, training and other laudable programmes.
Mr. Ibemere concluded that the NB plc had come to demonstrate the company’s friendship and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the Lagos Council of the union.
The event was attended by the officials of the NUJ Lagos State Council and the NB plc, along with the Integrated INDIGO Limited.
