Musk on course to launch OpenAI competition following criticism

Elon Musk, Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder, is reportedly in talks with AI researchers to develop a research lab that will rival ChatGPT’s OpenAI.
This new development follows his open criticism of OpenAI, a non-profit research company which he co-founded in 2015.
Musk said in a tweet: “OpenAI was created as an open source, which is why I named it OpenAI, a non-profit company to serve as a counterweight to Google, but now it has become a closed source, maximum profit company controlled by Microsoft. Not what I intended at all.”
In January, Microsoft had announced a multi-year, multibillion-dollar investment with OpenAI. Shortly after, the AI research company introduced ChatGPT Plus, a subscription plan for ChatGPT.

“We must remember that Musk was one of the earliest backers of DeepMind. Following Google’s acquisition, he co-founded OpenAI which was meant to be a competitor. It didn’t work out it seems. Now Musk is putting the money where his mouth is, and this is going to change the AI landscape forever,” he noted in his LinkedIn submission.
According to The Information, Musk has recruited Igor Babuschkin, a researcher who recently left Alphabet’s DeepMind AI unit and specializes in the kind of machine-learning models that power chatbots like ChatGPT.
