MainOne drives digital inclusivity in Ghana, unites industry stakeholders

In a forward-thinking move, leading connectivity and data center solutions provider MainOne has announced its plans to host a peering community in Ghana. This initiative aims to drive digital inclusivity and foster collaboration among various stakeholders in Ghana’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
MainOne’s state-of-the-art data center in Accra, adorned with world-class infrastructure and equipped with cutting-edge technologies, will play a pivotal role in hosting the peering community. By providing a platform for internet service providers (ISPs), and other stakeholders to interconnect and exchange traffic, MianOne aims to revolutionize the internet experience for Ghanaians.
MainOne, headquartered in Nigeria and known for its commitment to promoting digital development across West Africa, recognizes the potential of a thriving peering ecosystem in Ghana. Through this project, they aim to facilitate cost-effective and efficient exchange of internet traffic locally, reducing the need for data to be routed internationally, resulting in lower latency and improved internet speeds for end-users.
According to Funke Opeke, MainOne’s CEO, “We believe that hosting a peering community in Ghana will foster collaboration among local internet stakeholders, address interconnection challenges, and ultimately drive digital inclusivity in the country. The peering community is expected to attract local ISP such as Vodafone Ghana, MTN Ghana, and AirtelTigo, as well as content providers, such as YouTube and Netflix. By interconnecting with each other, these entities can exchange traffic more efficiently, reducing costs associated with routing traffic through international transit providers.
Furthermore, the peering community’s establishment is expected to encourage localized content delivery, as content providers withing Ghana can conveniently host their servers in MainOne’s data center. This localization of content will not only enhance access to locally generated content but also stimulate entrepreneur by promoting the creation and consumption of Ghanian content, thereby nurturing a sense of national digital identity.
