Isichei Osamgbi, NIMASA Director becomes Rotary Club President
Former Thisday Editor, and now Deputy Director with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Isichei Osamgbi has emerged the 33rd President of the Rotary Club of Ikoyi, District 9110 for the 2017/2018 Rotary year.
Osamgbi took over the reign of leadership from Rotarian Oladele Ojogbede, during the organisation’s investiture ceremony held last Saturday at Golden Gate Restaurant Lagos.
Osamgbi joined the Rotary Club Ikoyi in 2010 and rose swiftly through the ranks. In his first year in the club, he was appointed the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the District Governor’s installation, which ushered in the new DG of 2012/2013, Rotarian Kamoru Omotosho.
He was later chosen as the Director/Chairman Public Relations Committee in 2012. He served in that capacity until 2016. At the District level, he served as a member of many functional committees. He was also a member of the West Africa Project Fair Committee 2016/2017.
A multiple Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) with five star, Osamgbi has attended several Rotary International Convention across the globe as well as District Conferences.
Osamgbi, 51, is an English graduate of the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma, now known as Edo State University (EDSU). He earned a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos in 1997, five years after he got his first degree.
He joined Thisday in 1996 as a Sub-Editor. But between 1996, when he joined Thisday and 2006, when he quit, he had become Energy Editor, Deputy Political Editor, Deputy Group Business Editor, Business Editor (Nation’s Capital), Foreign/ Diplomatic Editor, Deputy Group News Editor, Corporate/ Public Relations Manager and member of Thisday Board of Editor.
In 2007, Osamgbi was snapped up by Shell Nigeria as Media Relations and Communication Adviser. After five years at Shell, he moved into the civil service follow an appointment with NIMASA.
