International Dairy Federation elects new president
The International Dairy Federation (IDF), a leading source of scientific and technical expertise for all stakeholders of the dairy chain, has named Piercristiano Brazzale its new president. Brazzale is taking over from Dr Judith Bryans, Chief Executive of Dairy UK, who was elected at the 2016 World Dairy Summit in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Brazzale, who has been a renowned member of the federation since 2012, was elected during IDF’ virtual Annual General Meeting that held recently. In his new position, Brazzale , through the support of the IDF Board, the Science Programme Coordination Committee (SPCC), the IDF Head Office, and IDF National Committees, will be tasked with steering the work of IDF in positive and yielding directions.
Brazzale said: “I am thankful and honoured for the trust the IDF community has put in me to lead the organisation for the next four years,” adding that he will be focusing on promoting and highlighting the value of the work undertaken by IDF to ensure the dairy sector continues to be recognised as making a significant role in sustainable food systems. Brazzale will also continue to be involved with Brazzale S.P.A., Italy’s oldest dairy company, in uninterrupted activity for at least eight generations, producing cheese and butter since 1784.
Founded in 1903, Brussels (Belgium), IDF represents the dairy sector as a whole at international level by providing a global source of scientific expertise and knowledge in support of the development and promotion of quality milk and milk products so as to deliver consumers with nutrition, health and well-being. The Federation is recognised as an international authority in the development of science-based standards for the dairy sector.
“Moving forward, IDF will be in good hands with a committed Board under the new IDF President, Piercristiano Brazzale,” outgoing IDF President Dr Judith Bryans, the first female President of the Federation, said.
IDF has working relationships with several global intergovernmental organisations, and has a formal status with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme – Codex Alimentarius.
The IDF said it has an important role to play in ensuring the right policies, standards, practices and regulations are in place to ensure the world’s dairy products are safe and sustainable.
