Glo set to re-engage sacked outdoor agencies
This is a piece of goodnews for out-of-home agencies in Nigeria. Glo, one of the leading global system for mobiles company in the country, is said to be concluding plans to sign new outdoor campaign contracts with OOH operators.
This information is coming as a respite to outdoor agencies in Nigeria, following the sudden revocation of billboard campaign contracts by the leading GSM brand a few months ago.
MARKETING EDGE gathered from reliable a source that Glo decided to cancel its billboard contracts because of the urgent need to cut cost and save the company from the impact of economic recession.
But that may not be the only reason for the action, as Glo was said to have diverted some of the saved funds into settling its huge tax deficit, in order to avert an imminent clampdown by government.
Some of the OOH agencies that were affected by Glo’s action included Invent media, Executive Options Media, Fulham Nigeria, Capital Media, CBS Outdoor, Adgozo, Mkpoko Ikenga, Optimum Exposure and New Crystal Media.
In the last two years, decline in corporate earnings has forced many companies to tamper with expenditure areas that do not directly impinge on their core operations. Airtel has also been reported to have reviewed its Outdoor advertising budget down-wards same for Guinness.
MARKETING EDGE could not ascertain when the new Glo campaign will be rolled out, but sources hinted that it will be sooner than later.
