Funke Akindele’s “A Tribe Called Judah” hits N400M

A Tribe Called Judah, a movie produced by Funke Akindele, Nollywood star, has hit N400 million gross income 12 days after hitting the cinemas, making it the highest-gross income movie of 2023.
Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the group responsible for aggregating movie screening statistics in Nigeria, disclosed this feat in a tweet on Tuesday.
The movie first generated a remarkable sixty million naira in just two days after its release, indicating its potential to break box office records.
It has outpaced other notable titles such as ‘Merry Men 3,’ ‘Orisa,’ ‘Kesari,’ ‘The Kujus Again,’ and ‘Something Like Gold.’
The film was released to the cinema nationwide on 15 December 2023. Akindele said the film is dedicated to her late mother, and draws partially from her mother’s life. It’s open to positive reviews and being lauded as the producer’s best and coherent work yet.
The movie is an enthralling story centred on a family of boys who resort to robbing a mall to fund their ailing mother’s medical treatment. However, their plans take a dramatic turn when they encounter armed robbers at the scene.
Funke Akindele has a track record of breaking records with her movies, notably ‘Battle on Buka Street,’ which grossed N640 million over 9 weeks in cinemas, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 2022, according to CEAN.
She has established herself as a significant player in the industry, showcasing her talent as an actor, producer, and now director, with various successful films, including ‘She Must Be Obeyed,’ released on Prime Video a few months ago.
