Ebenezer Onyeagwu awarded for contributions to growth in financial sector

In appreciation and recognition of his immense contributions towards the growth of the financial sector, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank PLC, has been bestowed with an award of recognition. He received the award after delivering a lecture as Guest speaker at the special Summit in commemoration of 20 Years of Telecommunications Revolution in Nigeria, organised for journalists.
According to the organisers, COMPACT COMMUNICATIONS, the award was in honour of Mr. Onyeagwu’s outstanding contributions towards the transitional growth of the financial space in Nigeria. It was presented to the financial guru by Mrs. Jumoke Alaka of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), an agency committed to implementing the National Digital economy policy for Nigeria, with the mandate to create a framework for the planning, research, development, standardization, application, coordination, monitoring, evaluation and regulation of Information Technology practices.
The seasoned banker, during his lecture, lauded the Nigeria telecommunications sector for introducing a revolution that stirred up many changes that redefined the operations of every sector of the nation’s economy especially the Nigeria financial space within two decades of its existence.
He stated that the introduction of telecommunications marked a watershed in what Nigeria has today as digital revolution, noting that the liberalisation brought in by telecommunications unleashed a quantum growth in the nation’s economy, while expressing optimism for more growth of the industry.
“Telecommunications has created a new niche in the financial ecosystem of the economy. Over the period, we are going to see, whether we like it or not, that telecommunications will get bigger and bigger and every other sector is going to rely on it. So, there will be heavier dependency on telecommunications for us to carry out our human endeavours.”
The 20 Years of Telecommunications revolution in Nigeria was held at Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
