Coca-Cola appoints Alfredo Rivera as North America Unit President
Coca-Cola North America division has named Alfredo Rivera as new president with immediate effect. Rivera takes over from James L. “Jim” Dinkins who has led the division since 2018. Dinkins who also served as senior vice president of Coca-Cola retires after more than three decades. He will serve as a senior advisor until his retirement on Feb. 28, 2021.
Rivera, 59, is a 23 year veteran who recently served as president of the company’s Latin America group which includes 40 countries.
He joined Coca-Cola in 1997 in the Central America and Caribbean division as a district manager for Guatemala and El Salvador. He held various senior positions at the company before heading the company’s Latin America group in 2016.
Prior to joining the company, Rivera worked for two independent Coca-Cola bottlers in Honduras and El Salvador.
Chairman and CEO of The Coca Cola Company, James Quincey said of his appointment: “Alfredo has had a remarkable career in Latin America, which is made up of a large number of highly complex and diverse markets.”
He added: “Alfredo has built a networked organisation that is positioning our business to emerge stronger from the current pandemic. He is a strong successor for the top role in our flagship North America market, where he will build on the great progress we’ve seen under Jim’s leadership. I thank Jim for his many years of service to the company and countless contributions to our business.”
Coca-Cola North America is the company’s largest operating unit, generating nearly 32% of its revenues last year. It includes approximately 70 bottlers throughout North America, approximately 8,000 employees and includes the company’s operations in the United States, U.S. territories and Canada
Rivera, in his new position, will report to President and Chief Operating Officer, Brian Smith.
