Brands, policymakers, personalities shine at GAGE Digital Awards 2020
It was a night of style and glamour at the exclusive and cosy Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was also a night of celebration of individuals and brands that have leveraged the power of digital to make life easier and better. Most importantly, it was a night of GAGE Awards, Nigeria’s foremost digital awards, which took the centre stage on Saturday, 22nd February 2020.
In attendance on the night were dignitaries such as the Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Communications Commission, Prof. Umar GarbaDanbatta and the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner of Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Popoola Fahm.
The event commenced with a blue carpet which was graced by digital stars, enthusiasts, nominees and policy shapers beautifully adorned in class and elegance.
About 12 awards were given out to deserving winners which include the Banking App of the Year 2019 won by GTBank and the Data Service Provider of the Year 2019, won by Airtel Nigeria.
In the keenly contested category of the Online Comedian of the Year, Taaooma came out tops, while Jumiafood won the award for the Breakout App of the Year 2019, and Segun Awosanya (aka Segalink) won the Online Personality of the Year.
One of the highpoints of the evening was the Special awards given to Executive Vice Chairman of National Communications Commission, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta for his contribution to the growth of digital in Nigeria and also the Special Achievement Award which was conferred on Mrs. Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho for being a shining light to women in the digital space in the Year 2019.
What’s more, it was a night of so much fun, excitement and a few tears as the soul singer, Johnny Drille performed with exceptional elan thrilling the audience.
It will be recalled that the GAGE Awards has been created to fill in a yawning gap in the digital space in Nigeria, with interesting ideas and innovation that will help create the much needed standard, facilitate growth and inspire new talents.
In the words of the convener, Mr. Johnson Anorh: “GAGE Awards coming to life is a dream come true because we have been behind the scene working on these award for over 3 years. This award is a packaged gift to Africa for Africans. This is an award with a purpose not a PR peg.
