The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) held its monthly Meeting/PR Clinic on Thursday, April 2, 2026, aligning the professional gathering with the global observance of World Autism Awareness Day.

In a strong demonstration of social responsibility and professional advocacy, the Chapter used the occasion to highlight the importance of inclusive communication and support for individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Speaking during the session, the Chairman of the Lagos NIPR Chapter, Dr. Samuel Ayetutu, fnipr, reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to ethical communication and social impact through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative tagged “Extra Mile Project.”

The initiative is specifically designed to support individuals and communities affected by autism. Dr. Ayetutu emphasised the critical role of public relations professionals in shaping public perception and fostering inclusivity.

He called on members to leverage their expertise and communication platforms to combat stigma, misinformation and harmful stereotypes associated with autism.

“As communication professionals, we have a responsibility to promote accurate narratives and inclusive storytelling. We must actively challenge stereotypes and discourage discriminatory language or portrayals in media and workplace communication,” he stated.

He further urged media practitioners and institutions to adopt responsible communication practices that avoid labelling, exclusion and bias, noting that such efforts are essential in building a more understanding and supportive society for people living with ASD.

As part of its commitment to tangible impact, the Chairman also announced that the Chapter would, in the coming days, present a cheque to the management of Puresouls Learning Foundation, Ikeja GRA, Lagos. This donation represents a fulfilment of the Chapter’s earlier pledge to allocate a percentage of proceeds from the Lagos Public Relations Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA) 2025 towards supporting autism-related causes.

The April PR Clinic not only served as a platform for professional engagement but also reinforced the Institute’s dedication to using public relations as a force for social good.
