WIMBIZ appoints new Board of Trustees, amplifies advocacy for gender equality

Women in Management, Business and Public Service, WIMBIZ, a leading non profit organization in Nigeria, has appointed a new Board of Trustees comprising of thirteen members with renewed call to galvanize support for increased gender parity and women representation in all spheres of human endeavor.
The appointment was announced at the opening ceremony of the two-day 21st Annual Conference of the organization which held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Some of the appointees are Bisi Adeyemi, CEO, DCSL Corporate Services Ltd as Chairman of the BOT; Dr. Olubunmi Aboderin-Talabi, Non- Executive Director, Punch Nigeria Ltd; Chioma Afe, Head, Marketing & Communications, Access Bank Group; and Aishah Ahmad, CFA, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria; amongst others.
The Conference themed: Firing Forward, the Future in Focus, highlighted the challenges experienced by female leaders in public and private services and stressed the need for improved partnership among stakeholders in the public and private sectors through policy formulation that would advance increased participation of women in leadership roles and governance.
Panelists, who commented on their individual growth trajectories, emphasized the need for organisations to create internal mechanisms that provide opportunities that spur growth.
They observed that though the ratio of women in corporate governance has substantially increased globally, there must be active and deliberate involvement of all and sundry to realize the goal for inclusivity and women participation in politics.
Some of the panelists are Akunna Cook, CEO/ Founder, Next Narrative Africa, Mokutima Ajileye, MD, Procter & Gamble Nigeria, H.E. Emmanuella Blatmann, Ambassador of France to Nigeria & Ecowas, Ms Chim Chalemera, Country Director, United Kingdom Government Department for International Trade, H.E. Humphrey D. Geiseb, High Commissioner of Republic of Namibia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Teshome Nkrumah, Canadian Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, H.E Williams Sterens, United States Consul General in Nigeria, and H.E. Maureen Tamuno, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Jamaica and Permanent Representative to International Seabed Authority, among other eminent personalities.
Iconic female legends who defied societal standards to emerge pioneer women leaders in their fields of endeavor were recognized and honoured with the Female Achievers’ Awards at the event.
The distinguished women who bagged this award are Prof. Laraba Gambo Abdullahi, Prof. Deborah Enilo Ajaikaye, Prof. Bolanle Awe OFR, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, and Prof. Felicia Adetowun Omolara.
