Tony Agenmonmen emerges NIMN President

Tony Agenmonmen, former Senior Strategy Manager at Nigerian Breweries Plc and 1st Vice President of the National Institute of Marketing (NIMN) has emerged President of NIMN. His election took place at the institute’s Annual General Meeting holding at Premier Hotel Ibadan.

Agenmonmen’s emergence followed the sudden withdrawal of his only opponent, Rotimi Olaniya, CEO of Advantage and President of Experiential Marketers Association of Nigeria (EXMAN), from the election.

Olaniyan shocked members of the institute when he took over the microphone to declare that he was dropping out from the election, leaving Agenmonmen as the sole candidate for the post of the Presidency. As at the time of filing in this report from the venue of the AGM, elections were still on-going to fill the other positions in the NIMN executive.

The EXMAN’s boss’ decision was met with relief and excitement, especially from the camp of  Agenmonmen because of the tension that had been generated since yesterday when the AGM began. Yet feelers from the election venue indicated that the former NB Plc Senior Strategy Manager was going to carry the day, but not without a stiff fight from Olaniyan’s camp.

Agenmonmen, who is a veteran of 32 years in the marketing profession and an author, has promised that he was going to ensure that the institute drives professionalism and ensures that there are qualified marketers available to work on brands.

The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) is the body charged with the responsibility of regulating the marketing profession in Nigeria.  This includes the authority to determine who are marketers and the standards of knowledge and skills to be obtained by persons seeking to become members of the marketing profession.
The Institute was established through the Act of Parliament No. 25 which was came into effect in July 2003.  Hitherto, two professional bodies, the Nigeria Marketing Association (NIMARK) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (CIMN) had existed as separate professional bodies competing for membership and authority to regulate the practice of marketing profession in Nigeria.
