Nigerian Box Office hits ₦2.8b in revenue for December

The Nigerian box office closed 2024 on a high note, with December delivering an unprecedented 2.8 billion naira in revenue.
According to an update on its verified X handle, the Box Office revealed that over 537,000 tickets were sold during the festive season, marking the highest attendance since December 2019.
The surge in movie fans was said to have propelled the industry to a record-breaking ₦2.8 billion in revenue which made December 2024 the most lucrative single-month in Nigerian cinema history.
The impressive figure is also believed to have reflected the growing appeal of cinema culture in Nigeria and the strength of the holiday film lineup, which featured a mix of blockbuster Nollywood releases and international hits.
Among the top movies that drove revenue were Kunle Afolayan’s historical epic Akanbi and the action-packed Shadows of Lagos, alongside Hollywood sensations like Avatar: The Reckoning”
“The December box office has always been remarkable for us, but this year’s results exceeded all expectations. It is a testament to the audience’s appetite for diverse and high-quality content,” it stated on X handle.
