Musawa harps on AI’s role in shaping Africa’s creative future

The Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, reiterated the crucial role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping the future of creativity and culture in Africa.
The Minister, who made this known while delivering a keynote address at the Global Inclusivity and AI: Africa Conference, highlighted how AI is transforming the continent’s creative landscape. She explained that AI enables young African artists to reach global audiences while redefining how art is created, experienced, and consumed.
Re-echoing her statement at the conference on her X handle, Musawa emphasized the need to ensure that AI is developed and deployed in ways that protect the cultural integrity and intellectual property of African artists.
According to her, while technological advancements are driving innovation in the arts, it is crucial to safeguard Africa’s rich heritage by ensuring that artists remain the rightful custodians of their work.
Through the combined efforts of the Nigerian government and its partners, Musawa stressed Nigeria’s commitment to driving inclusive growth through AI, positioning its creative industries at the forefront of global innovation.
While expressing her gratitude to U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell for initiating the conference, the Minister appreciated her colleague in the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, for his role in promoting AI within Nigeria’s system.
