Meta introduces monetization feature for Nigerian content creators on Facebook

Meta, the social media giant, has revealed that as from July 2024, content creators from Nigeria and Ghana can now monetize their presence on Facebook.
The company introduced two new monetization features: In-Stream Ads on Facebook and Facebook Ads on Reels. These tools will allow creators to generate income by producing original videos and building their communities.
In a recently released statement, the company said, “Available from today, eligible Creators in Nigeria and Ghana will be able to earn money for their video and reels content, with support in over 30 languages globally.”
Meta highlighted that to utilize either monetization feature, creators must adhere to Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies and be at least 18 years old. Furthermore, to qualify for in-stream ads, creators need to meet specific criteria, including having at least 5,000 followers.
Meta stated that In-stream Ads can be shown before, during, or after on-demand videos, whether it’s pre-recorded material or a recording of a previous live stream.
“Types of In-stream Ads include Pre-roll Ads (which play before a video starts,), Mid-roll Ads (which play during videos), Image Ads (static image ads that display beneath the content) and Post-roll Ads (ads which appear at the end of videos).”
Meta mentioned that Ads on Facebook Reels blend smoothly into original Reels, allowing creators to earn money based on the performance of their Reels while entertaining their audience.
In March, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Sir Nick Clegg, led a delegation from Meta Platforms Incorporated to visit President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
Following the visit, President Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, released a statement indicating that Clegg had committed to introducing a feature on Facebook and Instagram in June 2024 that would allow Nigerian creators to monetize their content. Clegg also expressed gratitude to Tinubu for the executive order that facilitated the landing of the Meta-supported deep-sea cable in Nigeria.
