At a Time Like this
This season may not be without its reason and as could be imagined, it also appears that this season and time has long being predicted and philosophized by no less a personality than Pastor/Revivalist Terry Sisney. Way back in April 7, 2015, Sisney shared a sermon aptly Captioned “How can you sleep at a time like this?” what Sisney, the Pentecostal Pastor from California, in the United States of America was charging his congregation was for them to wake up to the reality of their existence. This was a call to duty by his audience. Today, this call becomes more relevant to us at Journalists Estate Phase 1.
For us at Jerda, this is a wakeup call to the issues that have weighed us down as a collective. This is an election year and season that has assumed the character and complexion of its own. As the election looms in the horizon, it discharges a feverish air that is fast spreading like a wildfire, catching up with all and sundry.
Thank goodness, the feverish impulse of the forthcoming election has nothing to do with the dreaded symptoms of “Coronavirus”.
It is about the pendulum and where it will swing.
At a time like this, it is apt for residents to either vote Change or allow continuity in the leadership of our dear estate.
Today, unlike ever before, trust has taken a flight from our midst like an embattled Eagle that fails its target object. Not quite a few of our residents believe we need a change, a leadership we can all Trust.
We need a leader that is compassionate. A leadership that is affable and amiable.
Indeed, at a time like this, we need a leader that lends us his ears. Our agonies will remain eer-green, if we fail to have a leader who listens and who can be listened to.
Above all, we need a leader whose main covenant with all residents would be TRUST!
As it is popularly held, every age will produce its genius. Yet, every age and epoch will produce its morons.
Today, we have a genius for our age. We have in our midst an embodiment of Truth, Trust and Honesty. Indeed, we have in our midst a David who assumes and postures like an anonymous before the Goliath. Dear residents and readers, join me in welcoming our ever ebullient, self-effacing gentleman and versatile professional, Mr. Lawal Ogienagbon. Introducing this gentlemen is no doubt a hectic task as you will need to get your acts together and very correctly in doing that or else you risk incurring his anger which even he will fail to show nor exhibit. Reason? He won’t ever want to ruffle feathers. He is a quintessential Journalist bred and brewed in the true culture and tradition of Journalism excellence.
As a non-aligned resident in the course of all we have witnessed recently, he remains passionately committed to progressive ideals of growth and development of our estate. He has been tested and he is trusted. He has thrown his hat into the ring to contest for the Chairmanship position of Jerda Phase 1 in the fort-coming election.
Lawal Ogienagbon is not the unduly rambunctious personality. He is not a rabble-rouser. He does not believe in self before others. He is actually selfless. A servant Leader per Excellence, for the Jerda 1 top position, Lawal Ogienagbon is eminently qualified.
Presently employed by the Nation Newspaper as MANAGING EDITOR of the National Newspaper, Lawal Ogienagbon, an unassuming leader has all the networks and net-worth.
Perhaps, Elbert Green Hubbert, the American author and renowned writer had Lawal Ogienagbon in mind when he said “The hundred-point man is one who is true to every trust, who keeps his words, who is loyal to the forum that employs him, who does not listen for insults nor look for slights, who carries a civil tongue in his head, who is polite to strangers without being fresh, who is considerate towards servants, who is moderate in his eating and drinking, who is willing to learn, who is cautious and yet courageous.
Also Camilo Benso Di Cavour, an Italian statesman of the 18th century buttressed the Sanctity of Trust when he said, “The man who trusts men will make fewer mistakes than he who distrusts them”.
Lawal Ogienagbon moved into this estate in 2009 and since then, he has been silently contributing his quota to the development of this estate. It was in realisation of his commitment to progress and duty that the John Ajayi-led exco appointed him as the Chairman of the Electricity Committee. His performance in that position also earned him the trust of the current exco when he was retained as the Chairman of the same Committee for another two years.
He is well read and has acquired lots of experience in managerial positions.
His career in journalism spans over 30 years, having graduated with a degree in Mass Communication.
He started his journalism career as a Reporter with The Punch Newspapers in 1989. He also worked with Daily Times where he rose to the position of Acting Editor before leaving in 2005.
He has had a stint with The National Interest Newspapers as Group News Editor.
Presently, Mr. Ogienagbon is the Managing Editor (Editorial Services) of The Nation Newspaper after serving variously as the Deputy Editor of the Sunday title (2006 – 2007), Deputy Editor (News) of the daily paper between 2007 and 2010 and Deputy Editor (2010 – 2019).
In his own words, he said “I have devoted my time and energy to the cause of humanity.”
This is introducing to the great Jerdanians, the leader we can trust!.
